Ricky Foster was born here in Mt. Pleasant Texas on September 4, 1958. He graduated from Daingerfield High School. His education background includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Southern Illinois University and a Master’s Degree in Management and Human Relations from Webster College.
In 1982, Bro. Ricky married Judy Taylor. They have one daughter Britni and two sons, Randy and Clint. Bro. Ricky Foster served as our Youth Director from 1988 to 2002. He has been coordinating the educational ministries since 2003.
The Educational Ministries at South Jefferson Baptist Church are "Christ-centered," and based upon God's Word, which is our authority and guide. Bro. Ricky believes Sunday school is the foundational strategy in a local church for leading people to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and for building Great Commission Christians through open Bible study groups that engage people in evangelism, discipleship, ministry, fellowship, and worship. In other words, Sunday school is a strategy that guides people to come to know Jesus and then begin to deepen their lives in evangelism, discipleship, ministry, fellowship, and worship.
We offer Sunday Classes for all age ranges and grades, several adult classes including young adults, couples, senior adults, and ladies classes. In addition to Sunday school we have morning Children's Church for ages 3 to 6 years old. Our prayer is that children would come to know the love that Jesus has for them. The Children's Church was created as a way to teach children how to praise and serve the Lord Jesus Christ and is aimed at preparing the children in the things of the Lord.
We consider it a privilege to provide the variety of ministries for children to draw close to Christ. We want to make a difference in the lives of children by reaching out in effective and creative ways that communicate the love of Christ. On Wednesday evening we have Sonrise Kids for ages 3 to 6 years old and Patch The Pirate Club for 1st through 6th grade. Sonrise Kids contains Bible stories, activities and play for children. Through selective Bible stories from the Old and New Testament the children learn how God works through ordinary people. The children become familiar with the favorite stories of the Bible. Patch the Pirate Club provides stories, games, Bible lessons, and prizes. They also perform monthly with a song, verse, and play. The sailors work for a Faithful Servant Award by completing all devotions and by their faithful attendance in a nine-month period. Patch the Pirate Club does not meet during the summer months. Claudia Wills is the Coordinator.
